Blackout

I was so excited to see Angie Thomas and Nicola Yoon's names on this book and I got my beloved aunty to buy it for me (Thank you, Kat, <4). Yet, it's a bummer my expectations were not met. Let's five in, shall we?

Book Review 🌸

After reading this, I understand what the authors were trying to do but it wasn't executed in the best way. This was indeed a wholesome and easy read yet too much was going on.

I expected so much for this read because of the authors yet my expectations were not met. Blackout is made up of 6 individual stories yet that are interlinked somehow. I do understand that the main focus was 'Love' but it was laid on a little bit too thick.

Each story had a somewhat happy ending and that just didn't feel right as not all love has happy endings. Yes, some sad endings are explored like death but that's about it. That's about all the sad parts that are in this book.

I feel that there should have been equal amounts of the good and bad parts to balance this book out.

Don't get me wrong, the objective of this book was met, black teenagers finding love. Yet, the way it was written didn't do much for the characters and the idea of love for black teenagers.

This book would have gotten a two-star rating had it not been for the story by Nicola Yoon title of Seymour and Grace.
