Woermannhaus

The Woermannhaus is a registered historical landmark in Swakopmund, located on Bismarck St. It was completed in 1905 and is now a standing tourist attraction with and public library and an art gallery.

The library is opened to everyone and you can register as a member to check out books. They have a section for Afrikaans, German and English for both fiction and nonfiction books. There are also reading nooks for you to either read a book or study. The library once had a study section yet it was under construction when I was there.

There is a free internet hub in the library as well as computers if you don't have your device. You can access the internet for about 30mins and have it extended if you aren't done with the work you are doing. At the library, you can also scan, fax, and print documents.

I, unfortunately, couldn't take pictures in the art gallery as there was a co-exhibition from the |khoba project and Wild by Anne Lacheiner-Kuhn. Anne is a Namibian-born artist that now based in London. Their medium, for this exhibition, was collages and I wish I could show you some of their work as it was an interesting take. At first sight, you would think that the final pieces are wild and I think that's what they went for. But the longer you look, the more you see actually, and I think this goes for all artwork.

The famous Woermannhaus Tower was unfortunately locked and I couldn't give you a spectacular view. Yet, I will go back once it is open to the public again and I will update this blog post.

Thank you for reading
