Book Review🌸
I grew up watching his shows on television and this book revealed that his shows only grazed the surface area of his life. Never would I have known that Trevor was such a troublemaker and experienced all of that. Never would I have thought that Trevor would be the one to explain the roots of a slang word that I use in my vocabulary. There are so many 'never would I haves' in this book and I am glad to have experienced them all.
A question that still gnaws at me is whatever happened to Teddy? Did he stay in jail for shoplifting? Do you still talk? Are you still friends? These are questions that the book just never answered.
Besides the Teddy chapter, everything was clear as day. My favourite chapter in Trevor's life and this book is how he became a DJ and had all these dancers plus a running business. I catch myself thinking, "What would have happened had the police never shot Trevor's computer? Would he have grown up to be a DJ instead of a comedian?"
This book has a trigger warning of abuse and it analysis how the South African police had never filed an abuse report when Trevor's mother went there. Resulting in Trevor's stepfather ending up scot-free after he shot Trevor's mother as there were no prior offences.
Ultimately, the stories were captivating. Yet, you could read into who was Trevor's target market as he had to explain a lot of South African things. Maybe that was just him wanting to make his book understandable to non-Southern Africans and I'm just reading into it too much. Nonetheless, this book is filled with great laughs and insight into Trevor Noah's life.
