Here is my ode to Cramer's, the ice-cream shop on Independence Avenue, Windhoek.
Being from Swakopmund, I don't know a lot of places to hang out and chill in Windhoek but I am finding my way around this city. Funny enough, Cramer's was the first place I stumbled upon it in my misadventures and have only been there twice after that.
On the 29th of October, which was my recent visit, I went there with two of my friends for a meet up because it has been a while since we've done something together.
Cramer's was the obvious choice as it has an affordable menu and great tasting ice cream. We had the stracciatella, lemon and lemon and blueberry ice cream with waffles. They come with a side of syrup and be warned if you put too much syrup on your waffles they become too sweet to consume.
On another occasion, I got my friends to come with me to Cramer's, even though one of them had to write a teat that day. On this day, we ordered the chicken waffle and I won't lie, it didn't have enough salt in the savoury waffle itself. Maybe I have a high salt intake or maybe not. Besides the waffle, the chicken was cooked to perfection. Not too dry and not too soggy, perfection. The gelato homes ice cream flavours that I have never heard of. What do they mean by the liquorice and spanspek (cantaloupe) flavours? Please do let me know if you have had these flavours before or would try them in the comment section. Furthermore, could you also tell me if you spread your ice cream over your whole waffle or only spread it on the section you are eating?
All in all, Cramer's has great seating outdoors and with a view of the world around you. You get to see people living their day to day. If you get lucky and go there on a Sunday, you might just find live music.
