Well, well, well, well... Would you look at this wonderful edition. Welcome to Vinyls Music Cafe, where you find culture, your tribe and aesthetically pleasing spots to take pictures at.
My best friend introduced me to this lovely place situated at Zoo Park. I advise you to go there with a friend, not to get lost or to follow their instructions in this reel here. I say this because it is a hidden gem, sometimes too hidden to people that don't know Windhoek.
There are so many things to do at Vinyls. You could look at the interesting artefacts on their shelf, read a book, play a vinyl record or play board games such as Owela. Owela is a game that is fairly easy to learn. You move your pieces, which are referred to as cows, in order not to lose but gain more. There is an ongoing joke saying that the game is based on how the Aawambo people stole each other's cows. The picture on your right is an Owela board game and an Ombike cocktail.
Have you ever had Mutete juice? Or Ombike as a shot or cocktail. Well, Vinyls serves this and many more as it has an innovative drinks menu. My other favourites on the menu are the Handbag and the Cuca beer. They also serve cool drinks so don't dwell on the alcohol-filled menu.
And they have food as well. From tacos to nachos to chicken platters. They also serve desserts.
What drew me to Vinyls was Quiz Night and ever since I have not left because it is such a welcoming aura. Well, Quiz Night happens on Mondays and it has 3 rounds that are based on the night's theme. The rounds are History and Geography, People of Colour and Media. There is also a 4th round which is off theme, this round is any game and you will have to attend quiz night to find out as it is ever-changing. Find the Quiz Night Gang on Instagram
here for more information.
Don't be limited to Quiz Night as it isn't the only event they offer. They host open mics, karaoke and have added comedy hour to their arsenal. They also have DJs that come and spice up the evening. Yet, to know what event is taking place at what time and date, and if there are ticket prices, keep a lookout on their Instagram page.
Go to Vinyls Music Cafe, go see the evolution of music, go look at their tables ( you will know why once you do it) and maybe get to play a vinyl record or two. This picture, on the right, was taken from my first visit there and marked a beautiful beginning for me.
I never got to take part in quiz night and I can’t wait to do so one day!
