"Just keep swimming," he said and finally she reached the shore. So many emotions, highs and lows and all for a happy ending.
'It ends with us' by Colleen Hover exorcises emotions and thoughts you wouldn't normally have when reading a romance novel. Side note she is slowly becoming a favourite when it comes to romance books.
When Lily was a teenager, she fell in love with a homeless boy, Atlas, and that love never subsided. Even when the boy finally found a home and had to leave Lily's care. Yet before he left, he made a promise that he would find her when his life was great enough to have her in it.
Years pass and Lily moves on with her life, even though there is still an inkling of her year longs for Atlas. She finally got married to a handsome Neurosurgeon and all is well right? No, it is not. Did I forget that both Lily and Atlas come from an abusive home and the Neurosurgeon killed someone? This story just got interesting.
Lily's husband started being abusive towards her and it became a full circle because that's what her mother when throughout her childhood. The book then started laying facts on how people who are not in the situation judge others for not leaving their abusive relationships. It is not easy or the statistics would have been lower, it has to come from the abused partner to make that decision for themselves.
Abuse only builds up and in Lily's marriage, it sure did. Yet, your husband hurts you so bad that you end up in a hospital is not the most dreamed of a way to find out that you will be a mother. I cried real tears for her.
'It ends with us' is filled with highs and lows, crushed dreams and hope. Read the book and let me know what stuck out most to you.
