People we meet on Vacation, by Emily Henry, talks about a woman similar to me in most ways. The book talks about how Poppy Wright started university and one that she didn't want to be there. After dropping out and a job as a bartender she started writing a travel blog. Lucky for her, she got to convince her best friend, Alex, to mark out his summer vacation just for travel with Poppy.
Soon, she got enlisted by a big magazine and started travelling all over the world without a care in the world for the finances, as the magazine takes care of that. She also got her boss to agree to it that Poppy gets to take Alex along on a trip during the summer vacation.
Where this book gets interesting is that Alex and Poppy have been best friends for 12 years and they both have feelings for each other. Yet, the time never seemed right for them to be together. Yet is that the case in the end...
The book also talks about burnout and feeling stuck in limbo with your emotions as all you have ever sought after you have achieved, in Poppy's case of career. We as humans live to fulfil goals and having them all checked off leaves you in a crisis. Yet, Poppy finally figures out what she wants and starts working towards that and this left a bit of motivation in my life.
What I loved most about this book is that it speaks to me. Poppy started as a small-time blogger who writes about her travels but mostly enjoys connecting with different people. Fun fact, when I was 17, I always thought of writing a blog called "Faces and Places" where I get to speak to interesting people and find nooks of treasure in places never seem to look. Connecting with people is what excited Poppy and excites me as well when I write my blog.
Do give People we meet on Vacation a read because you never know what lessons you will learn. Maybe you will also find something that speaks to you in the book
